Is OpenHear an over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid?
No, ShokzHear OpenHear hearing aid is an FDA-approved prescription hearing aid that requires an audiologist or a hearing instrument specialist to program based on your hearing loss. A hearing test (audiogram) is required to ensure the device is adjusted and personalized.
Who may benefit from OpenHear?
OpenHear may be suitable for:
1) Patients above 6 years old with Conductive or Mixed Hearing Loss. The pure tone average bone conduction hearing threshold (measured at 0.5, 1, 2, and 4kHz) should be ≤ 60 dB HL.
2) Patients 18 years and older with Sensorineural Hearing Loss. The pure tone average bone conduction hearing threshold (measured at 0.5, 1, 2, and 4kHz) should be ≤ 60 dB HL.
In addition, according to the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Position Statement, bone‑conduction hearing devices (BCHD) may also be indicated in select patients with single‑sided deafness (SSD) who have normal hearing on the other side.

How long does the battery last?
OpenHear is expected to deliver up to 14 hours of daily use once fully charged according to ShokzHear's test reports.
